Putting on my Geography lens
When it comes to dissecting this AI in healthcare article; and how it applies to the tech, media and entertainment industry
This Wilmerhale article dissects AI and healthcare.
My analysis? Putting on my Geography lens (economic and cultural) and how it applies to the tech, media and entertainment industry.
Background
AI in healthcare is complicated because it’s moving fast while government laws and regulatory processes are lagging. Other issues? Whether data privacy, bias and sensitive data (health, location, web) are off-limits for the LLM.
Analysis
Same issues in the tech, media and entertainment industries. LLM needs user data (web, location). My Geography POV? Data laws are different across the country and world. Some governments impose streaming/YouTube while others prevent the LLM from using the content to train the AI models (example? UK)
Economic Geography Lens
In AI and healthcare, one of the goals of using AI is to close the gap between the rural and urban hospitals when it comes to health care. To make sure that the rural hospitals have the same access to health care information as the urban ones. When it comes to applying these ideas in the tech, media and entertainment industry, the same rules apply. People living in rural areas can be exposed to the same ideas as their urban counterparts.
Also, when AI is used in healthcare, the software could save around $200 to $360 billion a year (around 5-6% of health care spending in the US). The same idea can be applied to tech, media and entertainment industry. For example? (1) using AI chatbots to help subscriber’s answer questions (eg: bills, upgrading or downgrading streaming account) (2) automating basic tasks. Example? Creating a background scene with extra people or (3) allocating resources for a project - designing, budgeting and staffing a project. All of this complements the human in charge. It doesn’t replace them.
Cultural Geography Lens
When it comes to AI and healthcare, the software needs to make sure that there’s no bias (race, etc) when it comes to analyzing a patient’s data.
Apply this idea to the tech, media and entertainment industry? Each country is different. Some streamers in LA will be binging fashion show, in South Korea? Dramas or cooking shows.
LA is the cultural center of the world. Where the shows, songs and movies are created and exported to the world to see. To reflect PAX Americana. South Korea? Has the same focus as LA but it’s more nuanced. For example? Skin care, k-pop (songs).
